I got a comment on my crime post by some guy who thinks the problem relates to the good old days of Apartheid. I responded in kind, and he did too, and so did I again. I'm posting it here for the rest of you who might be interested in this train of thought / conversation.

They're probably lucky being HIV-AIDS victims. Could be lot worse. They could be victims of apartheid. Oh, did I say I was white?

Anon - victims of apartheid? That old, long dead flogging horse, I don't think so, you see, these three little KAFFIRS were about 12/13/14 years old. They are of the current regime, and what they know and do is thanks to the current regime. Don't come and try to lay a guilt trip on me bro - fuck you and those 3 little kaffirs! Salagatle! (spelling corrections done here)

Loved your response to my last comment. Didn't expect you to have a guilt trip - supremists seldom do but nice to hear that you're still using that old Arabic/Muslim word "Kaffir". And let's face it, if you still have an Apartheid mentality, black kids are still going to have their thief mentality. As for Jeanine, had a look at her blog and guess what, she's a Christian and you don't get much more supremist than that.

Oh, so now I'm a racist - the word Kaffir means non believer for a start. As for the old apartheid mentality, well refer my post on Witness... (http://soufafrican.blogspot.com/2007/03/witness-khumalo.html)- as for Christians, it's no wonder you have the attitude you do, you are either a raghead (read Muslim) or an Athiest, and in today's world I don't know what's worse, other than to say, you have no say cause you are, as we say here in SA, a fence sitter. Have a nice day and please call again! Salagatle!
I have no problem with his / her comments. What does irk me is:-
a) He / she posts anonymously - so no balls to show themselves for what they are - maybe if they had a blog we could read it and understand them.
b) He / she has no knowledge of real life here in South Africa - and the reasons why some people are anti -black as opposed to racist.
c) He refers to me a supremist, and well, I don't believe I am. What I do know is that I have morals and abide by the law of the land, no matter who or what is the government of the day.
d) I also know, for a fact, that no matter where they go in the world, and what their eventual final standing in the community might be, most (not all), most of Africans are at the forefront of crime and criminal activity. If you see burning cars in France, it's black kids doing it. I don't question their reason, only their actions). If there is a gang land murder in the US, 9 out of 10 times it's a black kid. So it's cause of his circumstances you say. Crap, I can show you a country full of poor people living in abject poverty that don't revert to lawlessness!
If there is a case of civil servants involved in crime, from a messanger up to a Vice President, which makes the news daily, it's going to be in an African country. And if you want to see a country which went from Bread basket of the continent to the begging bowl of the world, look no further, it's African, and just to the north of the good old RSA!
Just my thoughts.

Hello again Wreckless. Thought I’d pop back to see what was happening and was I surprised. That was a pretty lengthy post so excuse me for only commenting on a few of your points.
I’m well aware of the meaning of Kaffir but I don’t think you were trying to say, “Three young non-believers stole my money”. Somehow it doesn’t quite work, does it?
Your point about me being a Muslim or an Atheist and that you don’t know which is worse just about sums you up for me. If someone isn’t a white Christian, they must be something nasty? Somehow I don’t think your god would agree with you on that one. Just for the record, I am an Atheist so I get it from all sides, plus I'm white.
Don’t worry about me having balls. It takes more balls to accept multi-cultural societies than it does to spew forth venom about three black kids and I don’t need to know anything about SA to know the difference between your thinking and mine.
Show me a racist and I’ll show you someone who denies being a racist. But your fantastic line about the difference between being racist and being anti-black was verging on brilliant. Now we can all go about our lives saying we’re not racist, we’re only anti-black, anti-yellow and probably even anti-white. You really need to get out more.
You abide by the law of the land? I’m sure you already know that using the derogatory term “Kaffir” is illegal is South Africa but, what the hell, we’re all entitled to pick the laws that suit us most and ignore the rest. Hope you didn’t call the black cop a Kaffir to his face. No? Thought not.
As for the rest of your post, it doesn’t do much more than show up your superficial knowledge and interpretation of world affairs, history and criminal statistics.
Speak later?
I posted a comment here yesterday but it's not showing for some reason. Did it come through or was it lost? My main points were:
I don't normally get involved in this type of debate.
Seems you and Anon got off to a bad start by exchanging abuse, which makes it difficult to have real debate and maybe even learn something.
Not sure if being an atheist equates with being bad.
I also think the main difference of opinion between you and Anon is that you seemed to be saying that the issue was colour while Anon was saying that the issue was about thieving and nothing to do with colour.
I suspect these polarised standpoints won't be made better by the comments that have been posted, which is a pity.
I wish all of you could see our kids faces and the fear when this all happened !
Your comments are your own, one day you will see the other side of the coin when it happens to you and your kids
We got lucky they did not use guns etc...
Hope you can say the same, when it happend to you .
We live in a country with more people being killed than in a war zone. Unfortunately if you do not stay here there is no way for me to explain to you the constant fear that we live in. So till then I think we will agree that you can’t really make comments on the situation that we find ourselves in.
oh boy Wreckless...seems you got a fan!
for what its worth dude...I'm a proud white racist. So what.. to quote the words of Napoleon, "if I was black I would be for the blacks, but since I'm white, I'm for the whites!"
..and any theiving little pekkies I catch up to no good, the only thing that sees them right is a damn freeking hard hiding with a sjambok..finish and klaar!
The Afrikaner knows how to keep the peks in check, and its not with mooi praat!
Wreckless your anon sounds alot like our Pro-RSA person
It looks like I missed a bit of excitement there!
I made a post about Kwanzaa (copied and pasted from wikipedia) on SAS and was branded a racist, and now I'm a supremacist simply by virtue of being Christian. Hmmmm, it's very hard to debate when your "opponents" resort to name calling.
Would your anonymous poster like to live in a city like Detroit? If not, why not?
Glad to see that others are coming on board with this “debate”, even though it’s a bit one-sided with white South Africans pledging undying support for anything other than criticism of their constant racist ramblings.
Dx was all for debate but not on the basis of exchanging abuse, which is fair enough if the others who have commented could dig themselves out of their outdated black-is-bad mindsets.
Seaman made the best point of all when he spoke about the fear when the incident happened. I sympathise totally with him and I would hope that it is not an experience that is repeated. I hope your family is beginning to get over such a bad experience. My only points are that an experience such as this could have equally been one involving 3 white kids and the answer to the crime is not to adopt the age-old anti-black stance that whites in South Africa are famed for and have paid dearly for. My best wishes to you and your family, Seaman.
Fishman’s point is well made. South Africa can be like a war zone and crime rates are increasing. But blacks have the same fear of crime as whites and suffer just as much if not more from criminal activity. I’m only saying that there are social and historical causes that go well beyond the “black-is-bad” stance taken by Wreckless. Where I do not agree with you is that I can’t make comment. I can. The whole world made comment and took action against SA, which culminated in massive social and political change. If SA whites think that only South Africans have a right to comment, they’re wrong. I am sure that you make comment about other social, cultural and political issues that are outside your country. As for war zones, I’ve been there too many times.
Aunty Rotter is simply an out-of-date idiot, which most decent, white South Africans, I suspect, would want nothing to do with. If the Afrikaner wanted to reduce crime and keep criminals, of all colours, in check, I’d wager that it wouldn’t be via the means suggested by Aunty Rotter. In the situation described by Seaman in his comment, even I would be a better ally than this dinosaur.
I don’t know your Pro-RSA person, Meerkat. I’m giving you my thoughts and, believe it or not, I’m not really taking sides at all. I am simply against racism because history has taught us (well most of us) that it’s not a working model for society and South Africans should know this better than anyone. Wreckless saw 3 black kids and a black cop. I saw 3 young criminals and an incompetent cop and you come across the same kids and cops everywhere.
My comment about Jeannine was simply a response to Wreckless suggesting that Christians were good people and Atheists were in some way bad people. My experience is that some people are good and some people are bad. My experience is also that Christians are more interested in being Christians than in practicing Christianity. As for Detroit, what’s wrong with a great American city like Detroit?
Jeanine was correct. I made the first derogatory comment on religion after seeing her contribution and visiting her site where she pushed the 2000 year old myth of a wonderful afterlife (Fav books - the bible!). Having read her initial comment again, it was just too superficial to add much to any debate. But, to be fair, I did start the religion points and therefore admit that I was mistaken and apologise, which is quite different from lying.
I fail to see how me listing the Bible among my favourite books can be classified as pushing it. You're entitled to be offended by my beliefs, but you're exaggerating the case. And I will have you know I happen to be good friends with atheists and agnostics and I NEVER criticise their beliefs or try to proselytise them, which is more than can be said for them. One in particular is especially fervent in his missionary zeal to convert me to his point of view. I just laugh it off and say obviously I'm a more tolerant individual. It does get annoying after a while.
I'm just here living my life leaving nice comments on people's blogs. It's never even occurred to me to go to someone else's blog and attack what they say or believe. I think it's very impolite actually and I am getting a bit irritated at yet another example of double standards.
I guess I can't win no matter what. I'm a middle-aged white woman of European descent who happens to be a Christian. I refuse to bow to political correctness, and if my race is doomed, I'll at least go down kicking.
It was good of you to admit your error and if lying was too strong a word, I do apologise. I tend to call a spade a spade and I thought you were telling a deliberate falsehood. Having six children has made me very aware of the human propensity for lying when caught at something.
