From the "Observer" a Richards Bay" rag....
Thugs steal wheelchair
Tanya Waterworth
A GANG of armed men tossed a disabled fisherman out of his wheelchair in a brutal attack near the steel bridge in Richards Bay. The elderly fisherman, who does not want to be named for fear of reprisal, said that he and his son-in-law were fishing at the canal on Sunday evening. A (ldv)bakkie stopped behind us and two men carrying guns jumped off the back. The next minute they were all around us.
One of the men hit me on the head with his weapon, pushed me out of my chair and kicked me hard in the ribs, said the fisherman. The two victims were told to lie on their stomachs and keep their faces pressed into the ground. They told us that if we looked at them, they would blow our heads off. They were extremely aggressive and stole everything we had, including my wheelchair.
They even took liter litre bottle (plastic) half-filled with water. Fishing is the only sport available to me and with the beaches closed to vehicles, the areas where I can fish are very limited, said the distraught man. Richards Bay Police said that the gang were described as in their early 20s and driving a white Isuzu bakkie.
NO COMMENT.... I AM SPEECHLESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And from the "Sunday Times"
Ten people die in two-car crash - 29 January 2006
TEN people were killed and three seriously injured when two vehicles collided on the N12 in North West on Friday night.
Police spokesman Inspector Sam Tselanyane said that a Toyota Tazz carrying six women and a man crashed into a Jetta carrying five men and a six-year-old girl between Wolmaransstad and Klerksdorp.
Nine people died on the spot, including four men from the Jetta and four women and a man in the Tazz. Another passenger died at the Nic Boden Hospital, he said.
Three survivors, including the six-year-old girl, were later transferred to the Tshepong Hospital in Klerksdorp. They remain in a critical condition.
Tselanyane said the cause of the crash had not been established. "We are not sure what happened. But the road is straight and in a very good condition." Thabo Mkhize
I'll tell u what happened, the damn Tazz was overloaded. The front wheels were probably barely on the ground. There is no way the driver had any control on his vehicle.
I'll tell u what happened u cretin. The authorities (read traffic cops) were either back home watching sport, or sitting behind a bush somewhere manning a speed monitoring machine, hoping to catch someone speeding!
I'LL TELL YOU WHAT HAPPENED YOU DUMB F%$#......
ANOTHER TYPICAL AFRICAN SITUATION WHERE THERE IS NO CONCEPT OF WHAT TRAFFIC CONTROL AND MONITORING IS REALLY SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT. WHERE THE ONLY MANDATE THE TRAFFIC COPS HAVE IS TO CATCH SPEEDSTERS SO AS TO FILL THE MUNICIPAL COFFERS. WHERE THERE IS A 50 - 70 % CHANCE OF GETTING A BRIBE FROM SOME DUMBASS SPEEDSTER.
ANOTHER SENSELESS ACCIDENT.
AND WHO CAN WE THANK.... OUR ESTEEMED TRAFFIC DEPT.
AND THE MINISTER OF SAFETY AND SECURITY AND HIS DUMBASS CRONIES!
