The home we built is in the top of a hill. And, as he correctly sez, it may well be named Lightning rock.
Damn. 3 strikes on the place in two months. And they say lightning don't strike in the same place twice... hehehe!
First time round lost the gate motors, garage door motors, 2 cordless phones, 2 x shaving plugs in the bathrooms! Second time it was the TV, and 2 x cordless phones and a week later TV, Video Machine...! Now I've put up an earth cable, runing from the tv ariel bracket, down the wall, and onto a copper spike stuck 1 meter into the ground. Also, spent a small fortune on lightning arrestor plugs for the phones and the tv/dvd/video complex. Hope this stuff works.
Apart from that... not too bad. Must say though, we have a view of some distant mountains, and some nights the lightning displays visible from here over the mountains is "art"!!!
Only other down side with this lightning stuff is it scares the crap outta my dogs. One of them has been clawing at the front door, and has destroyed it!! That cost me R8000.00 when I bought it!! Only happens when we aint home though. Normally I'll open the garage door and let them in there for the storm....Ah well, it's only a door.

Why not set a camera up so you can get some lightning strikes caught on camera?
Good idea that... but cant aford the technology right now. However there are plans ......
