The groundswell that surrounded him was unprecedented, and coupled with the other prevalent factors, almost guaranteed him a win (all this in hindsight I must add).
Above is a reflection on the true meaning of freedom of speech!!!!Lets see, in my opinion:-
The current economic crisis, especially in the USA, leads the voter to want change. The dismal performance in Afghanistan and Iraq, leads them to want change. The overwhelming need for a move to a new era, leads them by the nose!
So what did the Barak machine do? Climbed on the "Yes we can" and "Change" bandwagon. The American voter has been duped by the Microsoft (and here in SA the Discovery Health and Vodacom) marketing machine! Think about it. The most expensive presidential run off in history. He's a black guy (change) marketing himself as the change guru (change), at a time when everyone is down and needs salvation!!!
I agree, they USA is tired of the Iraqi situation. I wouldn't want my son to go there for any reason, never mind to die. It's costing them a fortune. They are in a no win situation (been there before:- Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan,.....). But, what are the long term consequences of a full military pull out of the region? What would have happened if the USA had done nothing initially? Where would Saddam Hussein be now, and where would the nucleus of the conflict be? Because there would have been a war, that's a given. Just not initiated
Yup, I think it's a marketing coup, and I don't think he will be the saviour everyone thinks he's going to be. In fact, I think he could be a puppet. The "world" was looking for a reincarnation of Mandela, and in fact, callers into 702 this morning alluded to the fact that he is similar!?!?!, this comment based on his acceptance speech (which reduced so many to tears - Oh, 4FS!).
He's not going to be. In fact, any change he brings to the USA and / or the world, are probably going to be a natural progression (would have happened anyway).by the USA, and maybe located in the center of the oil fields, which would have led to an even worse economic crisis world wide.
In Africa this win is seen as something special. Not only because, for them, it proves that being black does not preclude you from taking part, and or winning, but because they believe he will be more influential in matters regarding Africa. (Read - bigger handouts!!)
If he wants to impress me, I believe that if he can get Mugabe to step down and accept his defeat, he has something. If not, he's got a lot of work to do to convince me he's worth his salt. maybe Macain was the wrong choice of the other party. A younger, less aggressive type could have done a better sell, the "veteran war hero" story doesn't fly with today's voters, as the majority are too young to appreciate the value and change that these war vets made to our world. Palin, I thought was a good choice as candidate for Vice, even though she was maybe a bit naive.....
Overall, I don't share the excitement that is prevalent around the world on Baraks success. Call em racist, old fashioned, inflexible, whatever, time will tell. If he pulls it off, good for him. If not, I won't say I told you so. But I have.

This didn't take long!Salagatle!

Personally I was hoping H. Clinton would be elected. Because she is a woman? No. When I listened to her speeches she made valid contributions on diffent aspects. The next day BO would just copy what she said and in fact was caught a few times plagiarizing other people's speeches. Now if you listened to Barack's speeches he would preach airy fairy stuff. There was never any substance ie foreign policies, economic turnarounds, nothing tangible. People see him as a sort of messiah preacher. The guy's got no experience but heh he is black/white. It was all about sentimentalism...yes blacks we love you and feel so sorry for everything we did to you and to prove it we will elect one of you with no experience and drive us into the ground. Its the politically correct thing to do.
I concur.
