Today is my late Dad's birthday. He would have been 78. Happy birthday Dad.....
For the past day or two we have noticed that when we go to pat the German Shepard, Kaiser, it's almost as if he gets a fright as you touch him, but then relaxes. I thought he was just being jumpy, or something had scared him. Whatever.
This morning he was inside the garage when I came in, and he approached me, slowly. Looking down at him, the sun was shining in his eyes, and I noticed the clouds! Yup, he wasn't jittery, the poor dog couldn't see you when you went to pat him and got a fright at the sudden unexpected touch.....
Off to the vet with him then to have it checked out. I was worried that some cretin might have sprayed something into his eyes... (They do that to take the dog out of action, in preparing to break in...). Anyway, that's not it. The vet says it's not uncommon in Shepard's for them to develop this thing (it's got a name) and it clouds over their eyes, and they basically go blind. He gave me a small bottle of eye drop, put in twice a day, come see me every 10 days so we can monitor it...... ZAR197 for eye drops....
He says sometimes it's reversed, sometimes not. So, Kaiser might be blind from now on. It's very, very sad, as he's usually so boisterous, friendly, playful. Now, he's just lying in the garage just outside the door to the house......
I sure hope he comes right. Damn it's not going to be easy for him being blind. Ans trying to get eye drops into his eyes is a mission of note. In fact, in the past hour I've only managed one eye... still got to try and get him to let me do the second one....
L8r all.....
