A massive amount of money is raised for the church / charity. Every Portuguese and Lebanese citizen of the town is there / involved, as well as hundreds of other visitors. Copious amount of alcohol are consumed, there is nearly always a fight (outside the gates) between seriously drunk darkies and coloureds, and if a Leb is involved, there is always a gun! Great fun!!!! No, really!
Anyway, at about 8pm I was really tired and decided i needed to get home to bed. Before I left, I did a walk around to the food stalls, just to see how the day had gone for them.
Julian, the owner of a couple (3 or 4) Spur Steak houses in the area always does the chicken stand. he confirmed he was sold out - he had braaied (barbecued) 900 chickens!!!!
Mannie - the butcher, who always does the Rump steak esptada (LIU) confirmed he was all out - 350kg of seroius South African Beef Rump!!!!
Mannies wife - Angelina, was at the prego roll stand. They had started out that morning with over 100 dozen rolls (and the minute steaks to match) and were down to their last few dozen.
And the lady at the portuguese bread stand had packed up and deserted her post after selling out a couple of hundred loaves of bread by 6pm!!!
Overall, a fantastic effort, and successful day (again). Well done guys!
