My car

went in for a service - 130 000 km on the clock. Last Saturday, when I was driving to fetch Witness (the gardener) I saw the oil light flash. So I stopped at the filling station, pulled out the dipstick - AND THE CONTENTS ARE LIKE TAR! I hadn't check the oil for some time, and thus I was lucky the thing didn't croak. Anyway, I added two pints of oil, and now it's the mechanics problem to drain / flush the engine. Although, I don't have a clue how he's going to get that stuff out!!

My Toyota I inherited in 2002. It's a 2000 model and had 18000km on the clock at the time. It's an automatic, which is a pleasure to drive to work and back as I am driving in peak traffic all the time, and so auto is good.

Mine looks like this (pic off Google - no I didn't ask for any permissions either)

Sounds to me like the oil got contaminated somehow! You are most probably going to hear the famous mechanic whistle when he sees the oil! Head gaskets, rings, New Exhaust, new gearbox! Yes that is why! The gearbox oil leaked into the engine!!! Big Bucks!!!
