You don't see this every day!!!
This was a pretty interesting story from The Sunday Newspaper. A resident in the area saw a ball bouncing around kind of strange in the Hartebeespoort dam and went to investigate. It turned out to be a flathead catfish who had obviously tried to swallow a child's basketball which became stuck in its mouth!!
The fish was totally exhausted from trying to dive, but unable to because the ball would always bring him back up to the surface. The resident tried numerous times to get the ball out, but wasunsuccessful. He finally had his wife cut the ball in order to deflateit and release the hungry catfish. You probably wouldn't have believed this,if you hadn't seen the following pictures...
This fish is in real trouble...... that or he's trying out for the all Africa Polo team....
So, shooy already!.........
Pulling him closer using what looks like a swimming pool brush pole......
Removing the now deflated ball.....
No pics after this because I am sure this catfish made a beeline for safer waters!
Salagatle!

I've heard legends that say the catfish in Hartbeespoort Dam, next to the dam wall, are so big that police divers refuse to dive in the area in fear of their lives...
That has nothing to do with the size of the catfish, but more with the fact that our police cannot swim........
