Turning fifty is a milestone
Not many think to achieve
It's rather overwhelming
It's half a century!
So much time has passed
Since birthing till today
So much of life has come and gone
Time, wasted away?
The memories are flooding back
Faces long not seen
Memories of good and bad
My life, all on a screen
My achievements are all up there
And all my failures too
Some make me proud to see
Some will make me weep
But most of all my family
Must be my proudest feat
In the winter of my life
They still surround me
Choice of friends, successful
Some long ago, and still here
Others touch and go
A burden we must bear
Overall a happy life
Along with all it's trials
And know that I intend to live
Another one just like it.

The 50th Party
So, one of the "must invite's" to the drinks and snacks occasion this Saturday had to be my brother, and his family! However, as of last weekend, he developed a bad dose of the flu, and had to see a doctor.
I warned him that he needed to be careful, as there is this swine flu going around, and from what he told me, he had at least 5 of 6 symptoms. So, he went off to the doctors on Monday, and informed me that a) He had blood taken for tests, b) he would only get his results by Saturday morning, c) he was quarantined to his bedroom, and d) he was given a dose of antibiotics.....
So, I was seriously concerned about his condition and dissapointed that he would no t be at the party. He did say that if he got the all clear on Saturday morning, he would come up anyway, but I wasn't too keen for him to come then as he would be tired after the 7 hour drive, wouldn't really enjoy the party, and would have to drive back home again on Sunday.
Yesterday on my drive home from work, I called him to see how he was. He moaned that I had woken him whilst he was having a nap on the couch. Nice, I call out of concerne, he complains. As I was pulling into the driveway at home, he called me, asking if I was home yet, as he knows that it can take upto 2 hours to drive home. So, whilst I took my stuff out of the car, I chatted to him, walked up the stairs to the front door, walked in, and walked into him!!!!
Yup, he has the flu, but confirmed not swine flu, and had come through early so as to make the most out of his trip!!! Man, it's a relief to know he's not too ill, and damn fine having him, and his wife, and my niece visiting us again. First time in 2 years!!
Welcome home ...

Bike Stuff
Bike stuff is all encompassing, and coming together just nicely now.
The colorful one on the left, a Rossi replica, sells for ZAR5400.00 - I can have it for ZAR 2700.00. The one on the right was an end of production import, Sale price ZAR795.00 still cheap at the price for a genuine AGV.I want one of the Rossi replica helmets - please!

Am considering having this sticker on the tailpiece of the bike after respraying. The "Sticker artist" is going to remove the writing. I think it will look cool.

And instead of the word "Yamaha" on the tank, I think I'll go for the Yamaha logo, as above, but
want
to replace the Yamaha "pointers" with the assegai, as above.
So, what u all think?

Friday, 21 August 1959
The above date is very important in the calendar of mankind.
World News:-
Hawaii was proclaimed the 50th state of the United States of America. At 3:14 p.m. Washington time, 10:14 a.m. in Honolulu, President Eisenhower called William F. Quinn, who was then administered the oath as the first state governor. Quinn had been the last territorial governor, appointed by Eisenhower in 1957. [42]. Eisenhower then issued Executive Order 10834, prescribing the standards for the 50-star American flag.
Turkey -
Birthdays:-
Anne Hobbs (1959) - Who?
Bud Schultz (1959) - Ditto.....
Leif Shiras (1959) - Ok, no one I know
Jim McMahon, American football player - Big deal - if you an American I suppose
Ok, so maybe it wasn't such an important date. August 21st does feature a lot in history, but not the year 1959.
Be that as it may, it also happens to be my birthday. Yup, 50 years old this year, and damn proud to have survived this long.
Thinking back over my life to date, and all that has happened, it is safe to say that you will die when it's your time. No sooner, no later. There are events in my life which in any shape or form were life threatening. There were actions taken by me which, in hindsight, were pure suicidal, and I am still here.
I am a cancer survivor, married successfully to a Princess (she really is, no kidding) for 20 years, have two well adjusted and, so far, successful sons.
I have owned and destroyed numerous cars. Have owned, and ridden like I stole them, numerous motorbikes. Have had accidents with both, and survived. Served in the then SADF, with more then 18 months service in "our war", working with explosives, landmines, and any number of crack pots, and I am still here.
So what I'm basically saying is, there are more than a few Doubting Thomases out there who didn't think I'd make 21, 30, or 40 yrs. Even more who didn't think my marriage would last. And more still who didn't think I'd ever be employable (on this one, at one time, I was in agreement). I have proved them all wrong!
This Saturday, the Princess is having a 'party" to celebrate my 50th. i didn't want one, in fact I told here repeatedly I didn't want any kind of function. She persisted, till I agreed to have just a few people round for drinks and snacks.
It's now upto about 30 people. Oh, well, I could always do what i did on my 21st, go out for the day on the bike, and get back home at about midnight....... However, that could be a life span limiting move.
Oh, it's by invitation only, but if any of my readers here turn up uninvited, with this post prined out in full colour, I'll let you in.

Apology
To my reader out there, please accept my humble apology for not having posted anything for a while. As opposed to my counterparts, who haven't posted for ever, mainly because they have no lives worth sharing, I have been extremely busy, but by this weekend will have more time, and will start to post again, regularly.
So, please don't go away.
