Ideas anyone?

So the other day I'm standing on the balcony at work having a smoke, and looked down into the parking lot, the same area where we always have able bodied clowns parking in the invalid parking bays, and I saw this:-(Okay, I could have rotated the pic b4 I posted it....!)
So here's what came to mind.
Why not make the sunroof inner ( the part that keeps the sun out), make it a solar panel. Then you could run either a small extractor fan, or a light duty aircon off of it, to keep the care cool whilst it's parked - in the sun?

Doff u say? I think not. In fact I think it's a great idea, and one that would probably fly. However, who / how does one go about putting this proposal to someone from the car industry?
Any suggestions?

Stupid mothers....

On the way to work the other morning, I happened to be behind this car. The lady driver (mother?) was not wearing her safety belt. She also had a little guy on the front seat, and a little girl, about the same age (twins?) on the back seat. He was crawing around, onto the back seat, back to the front, and so on.
And a great little guy he was too. I waved at him, and he was smiling and friendly, playing hide and seek with me. So, whats wrong with this picture?
Maybe the fact that the two little one's were not strapped in / in car seats. Maybe the fact that had she suddenly had to stop, one or both the kids could have gone through the windscreen, and that happy little face would have been torn to bits. Maybe the fact that there are never any Metro Cops around watching for this, too busy hiding behind bushes, milking the speed trap machine.....
Now I could send these photos to the local traffic department. The problem is to find someone who will actually care, realise that this is a traffic offence, and follow up.
Anyway, mabe some one will do a search for this numer plate, and maybe it will come lead to this post.

Clever Trevor

Yahoo has a "Answers" tab. People post random questions, and if you know the answer, well you help them out.
So here's one that I picked on:-

Describe erosion process in metals, solvent attack process in polymers and thermal shock process in ceramics?

And my answer:-
Erosion process in metals - well when any ferrous metals get wet, they rust. Rust tends to flake off, to the metal will with time get thinner / lighter / smaller. That's erosion.
Solvent attack in polymers - sound to me like a for of acid which will cause a polymer based product to deteriorate / lose it's consistency.
Shock process in ceramics - ah, that's easy. Ever drop a ceramic pot / vase / tea cup? See how, as soon as it hits the ground it breaks into little pieces? Well that's the shock process in play.
Good luck - now go read the material provided in class and see if i'm right or wrong!!!!

decisions, decisions, decisions....

There si currently, on National TV, and advert for the Kia Sportage, on special. R242000 with a R30000 cash back / discount / extras offer. Add R3000 to this for Lic & reg fees.Mentioned this in a previous blog.
Anyway, turns out it's a 2008 model actually, but brand new, so will be registered as a 2009 model. But it's also pre - facelift.
Not too many changed, headlights, front grill, twin exhausts as opposed to single, new style mag wheels. Internally much the same, small change on the aircon buttons, and the addition of an I-Pod jack, as well as a USB port (for charging stuff?). Oh, and the radio can also play MP3.
So, I go look at the new facelifted model.
R242000, but, they offer it with Nudgebar, tow bar, Anti smach and grab window tinting, as well as the Lic and reg fee, all thrown in, at the floor price.

Both dealers are offering R115000 for the trade in (2004 VW Kombi, 1.9 TDI, 118000, full service history, inc. towbar......).

So, do I get the new look model, with all the optional extras, or the older look model, with no extras. They just called to confirm I can have it for R207k! Another R5k off.

Seeing as I would be getting R35k (R242 - R30k cash back = R212k, -R207k = R5k. So R30k+R5k=R35k) back, it makes more sense to me to go for the old look, new car deal.
Just wondering what u all think?

Pigs can fly

Some time ago, one of the previous American Presidents (was it Nixon?) said that when a black man become President of the USA, pigs will fly.

Obama was elected president, and 100 days after his inauguration
