Poker plays
Time for some pics again

This cactus makes the most unusual and beautiful flower!

This is a "Black rose" cactus (of course thats not it's proper name, I just made it up), but it's a neat plant, currently in flower.

A Leaf broke off of the plant featured above, so I stuck it into the ground, and now it's growing!

The Cactus plants at the bottom of the garden are really doing well, as can be seen by the multiple "babies" sprouting out!

A Metro Police member doing what he does best! Sitting behind a bush, manning a speed monitoring camera, and taking photos of offending drivers number plates so as to send them traffic violation fines. Whats the point? Apart from raising a fortune in revenue, it does nothing to slow down the offended, and so reduce the accident rate!

I really liked this, and drove behind the owner for about 5 lm before I could get the right photo!

This monstrosity (actually it looks damn fine) is being built on a hill top on my way to work. $ Floors of what will no doubt become a display of unseemly opulence in a country devastated by poverty....

A sunset - photo taken from my deck....

GMan and his "car".
GMan is 17, and so can now apply for, and hopefully get, his motor car learners license. SO, while he's waiting for the bureaucratic, corrupt, red tape to move him up the waiting list, he's frantically helping me to find him a car! he knows that the budget is tight, and I need to minimise my expense, but he also wont just drive anything!
hell, when I bought my first car (I bought it), all I had was a budget. I would have bought and driven anything! Be that as it may, we also didn't have peer pressure, and labels......
So, Saturday morning saw me and the princess off to Pretoria, Valhalla to be exact to view a Golf III, GSX 1.8. From the pic, looked good. From my chat with the owner, sounded ok. From my final annalisys, and inspection, it's a piece of shit!
Leather seats - yea - used to be. Have been recovered by a blind, armless, homeless person with "imitation leather"!
Motor runs well - yea - once you get it started, oh, and he does not know whay all thise wires are hanging there, what they are for, and no, he's not sure the engine parts are all there. (I noticed some parts were remodeled from non-VW parts.....)
Just replaced the tyres, - yup, with what would normally pass as "These tyres have been scrapped" "Not suitable for retreading...."
Mags - ok, so in some towns, like maybe in the South, those things are mags.....
Original paint job - it shows
All round good condition - yup - that it was - 5 years ago.
Anyway, I got to have a nice quite personal breakfast with the Princess, something we haven't done for a long time, AND WE GOT TO WASTE 4 HOURS OF OUR DAY.
So, and RSA based readers out there wanting to sell a small, reliable car, cheap, send me a note.

Also in the news today.....
Ok, not in the news, but, I received a message in http://www.sareunited.com, from an old buddy who one day decided he'd had enough of this crap, got on a plane, with no real plans, went to NZ, found a job, sent for his family (wife, not sure about the other kids) and thats that! No intention to return, having more fun (he says), jobs good...... But, He had to leave all this behind! (says me!)
Where will you find another bushveld, game drives / parks, seas, weather, and people like ours?
I hope no where, or else I'd have to concede that the epidemic is spreading!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice to hear from you LVB, and hope to hear from you some more soon.

Conspiracy theories
- A comment from one of my previous posts:-
- Anonymous said...
- There is a plot between Mugabe and Mbeki. Remember the Chinese ship full of weapons? And now this? There will be a coup d'Etat. This way Mugabe gets rid of Tsangavarai (?) and Mbeki gets rid of Zuma. The 2 countries will become one big red country full of natural resources.
- A2Z
OK, so not really anon - just A2Z too lazy to log in.
However, be that as it may, the theory that there would be a Military Coup in Zim is not so far fetched. But I'm not sure how this would advantage Thabo, and / or how it will have an influence on the RSA President in waiting?
What is of concern right now it roumours that in Mozambique the locals are stoning vehicles with any South African registration plates. This is as a return favour to our local bully boy criminals attacking the foreign aliens who are "taking our jobs, and our women, and houses...."!
What has history to say about similar situations? Any chance that Moz or Zim will decide to attack / invade RSA on the basis of these xenophobic attacks?
WOuld be interesting to see how our "Depleted, under funded, aids riddles, unionised SANDF would respond and / or cope (or not)!

A very sad weekend for my family
When my brother and his family were visiting a few weeks ago, they told us about a lady friend of theirs who had had an operation for what should have been a minor problem. Not to trivialize the operation, but it's one of those where people usually have it, and get on with life. Anyway, as it turned out, she died. Complications of sorts. (Sorry guys, I don't recall all the details).
Anyway, she left behind a husband, my brothers very good friend, and two kids, 12 and 5 (if I remember correctly).
Saturday morning he phoned, to say that his friend had been killed in an accident!
Boet, I am so very sorry for your loss. I know how close you were, even more since he was drawing on you for support since his loss. Know that there is a reason for these things. be there for his kids, even be their "other" dad if you can.
Know that you are in our thoughts.
