Last night,

after dinner, I went up to the Sports Club, to see who's back from their vacations, a Coke Light, and a spot of poker playing. it was quite quiet, with a committee meeting going on in the lounge area, and two guys and a chick in the bar area. I didn't recognise any of the 3 of them, and figured they must be visitors. However, as they were alone (i.e. not accompanied by any member), it was strange they were there at all. (Rules are rules you know!)

As I was sitting playing poker at the other end of the bar, I could hear that the conversation coming from the two guys was, well, getting "rough". They started to wrestle each other around, kind of a power play thing. I could hear that one of them was out to prove his strength to the other, and kept saying things like, "I don't want to hurt you cause you my friend" and " I could easily kill you!".

Then it was arm wrestling, and this got stupid. They were quite drunk, and the "loser" / "aggressor, he who could kill you, started getting seriously loud, drunker and pissed off! To the point that he was annoying me, and I could see the bar man was getting worried too.

Soon they were not getting on. One was wanting to fight, the other was apologising, but adding that he didn't know what for....

The committee meeting finished, and three of the guys came into the bar. The old guy (chairman) a younger man, the cricket coach (from the UK), and another young man, Afrikaans speaking (first time I've seen him!). I confirmed with the chairman that none of the dummies were members, and then told him to expect some trouble. 3 Minutes later the dumb arse lost it, and got out of control. He wanted to fuck everyone and everything up! The Chairman walked over to him, and said it's a private club, and he needs to finish his drink and leave as we a closing up for the night! He said ok. But as soon as the chairman had returned to his seat, the idiot started up again.

Time for the Wreckless EuroAfrican to step in. The guy was at least 10 - 15 years younger than me, looked fitter, and was at least 4 inches taller than me. I walked over, took him on the elbow to get his attention and said, "Buddy, this is a private club. You are behaving like scum. Now you have pissed me off, so it would be better for you if you FUCKED OFF!"

He burst into tears! Yea, I couldn't believe it. And then turned around and hit the bar counter with his hand, which also hurt his hand, and increased his "pain". He tried to convince me that he was not a bad person....... ya, ya, ya. I took his elbow again, and marched him to the door. He asked if he could get his stuff first, so I walked him back in. His stuff turned out to be the chick that was sitting there very embarrassed. I told the barman to contact the security company, which he promptly did by pushing the alarm button. So I took her by the elbow, and without either of then finishing their drinks, walked them out, through the security door to the outside, and told them to leave. Then I locked them out!

Going back inside, the chairman couldn't thank me enough for taking care of the situation. They were quite surprised by me, as i don't drink (not at the club anyway), I never show any anger, or raise my voice. So I explained to him that had I still been a drinker, that guy would be lying on the floor right now, bloodied and broken, probably surrounded by the remains of a couple of bar stools. Their looks were incredulous, but, I know!

Turned out fine in the end. Oh, and i won ZAR20 on the poker.

It's just not cricket....

This fiasco with India and Australia and someone calling someone else a monkey is so stupid. PC (political correctness) has gone way past insane! I mean, is it really that bad? After all, we did it all the time at school / the army, what makes it different today? And to say the remark is racist just proves my theory that no one Knows what the word means anymore! What race will this be degrading?

Anyway, for my money, and some Aussies I have communicated with on the net, who cares if the Indians go home? Fuck, it's their income that will be affected, and they can rather go and stir it up with the Pakistanis!!!!

Work

I have just now rejected my online sales incentive plan, and had a call from my manager who said he hasn't read it yet? DUH? and who wanted to know if I would be interested in a position within the FSS sector (Financial Services Sector)!

There is no current actual position available that I know of, he said he didn't know of any actual position? So where the fuck did the idea come from? Oh, i know, he has seen my email, and now he's hoping to get rid of me because, a) I am stirring big time, b) he does not know how to manage me anymore, c) I am a "bad" influence on my peers, and d) With the current status being as it is, I'm probably going to bitch slap him b4 long!!!!

eNATIS

I am compiling information on the South African national Traffic Information System which was implemented last year. I have reason to believe that there is a case to be had for "Monopolisation" and "Uncompetitive Advantage" which, if I can get the stuff together, I would like to take further. Would be great to take on the big guns in this instance.

So, if any of you have any real information to share, please let me have it.

On Line Poker

Playing online poker (for free, not real money), it's amazing to see how stupid some people are. Most times there is at least one idiot who will go all in pre flop. I mean, even if you have pocket aces, there is no reason why you won't lose to 3 x 2's, or two pairs. Pocket aces is not a guaranteed winning hand. I normally raise this point, and most of the normal players agree that this form of play is only prelevant in the free game form. None of those idiots would do the same sitting at a table with real people, and real money.

Not that it matters one way or another, but the atrt to poker is to call the cards as they come, play to out wit your competitors. All in's will win you the hand - normally, but you only win the minimum that's in the pot.

For those of you who don't play poker, or even understand the game, this is of no use to you, but it's just my opinion on the game, and how it's played.

Times are tough

With the rising interest rates, no increases over the past 2 - 3 years, a bad sales run for the past 24 months so no commissions, things are starting to get tough. Finances have never been so bad, and I'm looking at other means to add to my income.

However, I am not alone in this situation, as some people I have talked to in the past few days seem to be in much the same position. I don't think the economy is really as strong as some would like to think it is. I think there is more disposable income available in the lower class, poorer class, and they are spending it all, which gives the impression that there is money in a bundance out there. But, the fan it going to hit the proverbial, and I think the aftermath will be very ugly. In fact, politically, it could be the ruin of some of our politicians, as the masses will blame the current governors, and will hastily push in the president in waiting, believing he will make a differance. Such is the politics in Africa.

Time will tell.

Last night

the person in charge of the Gauteng arm of the Scorpions (LIU), and he also happens to be the person in charge of the Selebi investigation (LIU), was arrested and put into jail! He was stopped roadside about 100 meters from his home, accompanied to his house, where at least 20 heavily armed police entered the house with him. He was then officially arrested, and taken outside where there were at least another 30 armed police! He was taken to the local police station and incarcerated for the night. He is expected to appear in court this morning. No one had any information on what charges he may be facing, but I think it's related to the Selebi thing.

Anyway, when I heard it on the radio this morning, and the subsequent interviews around the issue, I had visions of a banana republic type enforcement, such as has been witnessed in Zimbabwe over the past 10 years!

2007 - in closing

What a crappy year it turned out to be.

Work wise one of the worst yet for me. Business in my sector was slow, and in the second half of the year I never came any where near making the target. I lost out on a lot of commission, but mostly due to the fact that the powers that be either deselected some of the opportunities I brought in, or they just cocked them up when it came to creative pricing and responses!

At home, although I got a lot done, especially garden wise, I didn't finish my bar counter, and that's actually quite depressing. it also means i don't get to start on rebuilding the Aprilia RS250 quite yet. We sorted the kids shower (at least I hope we have), but I still have some water problems when it rains a lot. Will need to get clever with this problem soon.

My casket business, although generating some interest, and looking promising, kind of ground to a halt, but I will be getting back into it asap. Will have to make my own jig after all as the person who said he would do it for me hasn't even started yet. And between him, and the cardboard box guys, and the damn coffin accessories guys, I couldn't get final pricing done. What a schlep to do business in this country!

As for the boys, well they had good year end results, both of them. They did well in their sports through the year, and overall were well behaved (save for the one incident where I was seriously disappointed...). They have had a nice long holiday, and even though we didn't get to go away to a holiday destination, they had a lot of fun, time with their friends, going out.

The rest of the family had their up's and down's. Queenie was the most consistent. She kind of keep things on an even keel, and apart from a funeral or two, didn't have too many "incidents" this year.
Mom had the bad fall mid year where she a) contracted shingles, b) split her skull open, and then spent 2 - 3 months recuperating at my brothers home.
My brother had some incidents of his own. He had the opportunity to get employment in Australia, but because the local public service and SAPS are so apathetic, he couldn't get all of the paper work done in time, and lost the opportunity. I'm not too sad, but it would have been a fantastic opportunity for him and his family. He then had Mom living with him for those 2 - 3 months, which could not have been easy on him and / or his family. They did a fantastic job though, and Mom is well recovered and back to her old self.

Then his position at the company he works for became obsolete - and he had to apply for other positions. He's got one now, but it's not at the level he was before, he's lost some of his perks, and because the changeover occurred at about the same time as their annual performance evaluations, he was subjected to a mediocre evaluation by his new manager! This meant that all the good work / over performance in his previous position meant nothing, and he didn't get the expected increase ++!

Then he had the disastrous "investment" into 3 "Made in Japan / China / Korea / Hong Kong" quads - 3 off them. They turned out to be really rubbish, and he got rid of them asap, but took a ZAR 18k knock within 4 months! He has since replaced them with branded quads, but is now having to pay a lot more for them. So, for him, as for me, times now are a bit tough, especially since the interest rate has gone up so many times in the past 12 months!

Politically in South Africa things are, well, interesting? Apart from the normal day to day fiasco's, we have our national police commissioner Jackie Selebi who is facing charges. Apart from his criminal side, he deserves to be charged with gross stupidity!
Then we have "Take a shower to prevent HIV /AIDS" Zuma, who was recently elected as the president of the current ruling party, the ANC. The problem is he's next in line for the position of President of the country! Why is this an issue, well, he's currently facing about 2 zillion charges, including fraud, bribery and corruption, etc. Apart from which he only recently survived a court battle after being charged with rape, and should, as with Mr. Selebi, be charged with gross stupidity.
We have whomever is in charge of roads / traffic etc. who is ecstatic that the death cunt on out roads over the past festive season has come down year on year. WOW! It's still over 1200 dead you stupid idiot. Here have a badge - it reads (I should be charged with gross stupidity!) If you consider that the whole world is outraged that over 1000 people have lost their lives in Kenya in the riots which following the botched elections, why not the local road kill count?
The minister of Education - she who studied at an English school in the UK, and who speaks the Queens English (albeit with a bad accent), is chuffed with the Matric results. The pass rate dropped year on year!!! However, she says, if you consider that there were more than 50 school days lost due to the teachers strike mid year, it's still a good result! It is? Less than 66% of the pupils who sat for this final exam passed And of those who did, less than 10% got exemption!!
Previous Minister of Education (national or provincial, I'm not sure) Mary Metcalf, who is now a professor of education at a prominent university blamed the system over the past 12 years, as the pupils are affected from day one. Maybe she's right, but thankfully she couldn't blame apartheid!!!
And someone recently stated that the start of the new year will be badly affected because the text book suppliers were behind on production / delivery. One of the main players in this game came on air this morning to state the following:-
When budgets are set and orders placed for the next years text books, they normally have to be done by the preceding March / April. Last year this only took place at the end of August! Hence is is almost impossible to have everything printed and distributed before the academic year starts!!! However, he did say that they were at least 80% delivered, with some more deliveries due in the next two weeks.
A Judge, darkie, who reversed his car through the wall of a neighboring home, and was as drunk as a coot, has still not appeared in court. There is video and voice evidence at hand, taken on a cell phone, which his defense team tried to have thrown out of court. Don't think he's going to get away with it, but you never know. However, it has been dragging for some time now.
And there is our dear friend, the Magoo's bar bomber, Mr. Robert McBride, who happens to be Chief of Ekurhuleni Municipality Metro Police, who is facing charges of drunken driving, driving under the influence, and total destruction of an official vehicle. He has denied all charges, but has been caught out having bought of some witnesses, including some of his officers who attended the accident scene, and who have now turned on him. He also got a crooked doctor to falsify a medical condition / test. His case has also been dragging for some time now.

The rest of Africa, was, to say the least, typical! Zimbabwe, the leading banana republic, continued it's down slide. Inflation is now unmeasurable, as there is nothing on the shelves to sell, so no prices go up, so no inflation. Their currency is now worth less than monopoly money, in fact, I could get more for a 25 year old $100 monopoly note, than I could get, black market or otherwise, for ZIM$100,000,000 (one hundred million!)!
For some reason the Kenyans have now lost the plot. All this rioting post elections is crazy. Apart from the fact that it's not civilized (lol - imagine using this term whilst discussing matters African!), it's also very damaging, long term. Already there is mass food shortages and hospitals are overwhelmed, etc. Rape is escalating to unheard of proportions!!!! Seeing as their economy is mostly dependent on tourism, i.e foreign currency coming in, it's now dead! No one is traveling there whilst the tribes are at war!

Enough already!

Obama - Presidential hopeful

Contrary to what people may think, and with reference to the discussions on www.702.co.za this morning, I don't believe that Obama will make the final race. If he does get elected, I make the prediction that he will be assassinated before his first 100 days are through!!

Last night

we went to Mont Casino for the Queenie's birthday dinner.

In the first place, everyone was convinced I would disappear into the casino to partake of my favorite pass time. And then secondly, we had a non - smoking section table, as I am the only one there (15 of us) who didn't smoke.

It's a buffet spread, basically eat as much of whatever is there for a fixed bottom line price.
Now I don't mess around - starters, main and desert, in that order and I'm done.
Someone commented that I was already on dessert, and they were only going for their second plate of main (well, excuse me if you didn't get enough first time round, or if you are a glutton!), and my sister in law commented that I was hurrying because I wanted / needed to go for a smoke.

So I fucked everyone around. I didn't go for a smoke till we actually left the venue - i.e. 3 hours without a smoke!!!! and I didn't go near the casino section - i.e. I can be there and not gamble.

The reality of the matter is:-
I smoke because I enjoy it and because I want to! I don't have to go for a smoke every 20 minutes! So fuck you and your stupid comment!
And I gamble because I enjoy it - not because I have to..., So fuck that opinion too. (Pity I had a point to prove though, the casino was very quiet, so I could have found an empty seat at the poker and or Blackjack tables.....)

Salagatle!

So I really cocked it up, didn't I?

Contrary to the advise offered on a previous post by 2 of my occasional readers, I didn't do the "apology flowers" thing, I just don't, and it's come back to bite me.

Princess hasn't spoken to me since Old Years eve, apart from the occasional grunt, or if required, short curt comment. This morning I brought it up, and got bliksemed! (LIU).

So, I sent an ecard, and apologised, and have a response which is positive.

here is the pic from the card, the self chastising and derogatory remarks have been omitted due to the sensitivity of the matter.

The week that was

The kids are at Gold Reef City again today. kind of the last fun day for them as the schools reopen on Wednesday. Yesterday we had a surprise lunch for the Queenie at the sister in laws home, and it was a good turnout, and much fun had by all. It's her 70th this week Wednesday. Tonight we all going to Monte Casino for dinner (her idea), and I will prove to the rest of them that i can go to the place and not gamble. (Don't have the funds to anyway). And on Wednesday, when it's actually her birthday, she's having some of the old ladies around to the house for tea.

Yesterday we also took down the Xmas lights. There's a song that goes: "And on the 12th day of Xmas, my true love said to me, Why are the fucking Xmas lights still up?"!

We have had some serious rain again over the past few days. I don't mind though, it's good for the garden. But I do mind when a midnight storm comes up, cause I have to go down stairs and let the dogs into the garage else they destroy the front door trying to get in!

Salagatle!

The beginning of the end

So, First official working day, first meeting at 9.55am, and the news is:-
Our Commissions gating has been taken away! This is good - previously, if you didn't make the minimum gating (30% / 45% 60%, or whatever it was at that point in the year) you didn't get any commission. Now, as you sign a deal, you get paid (still 3 months later though).
Our salary split is now 55 / 45, no longer 60/40. This means I will take home, on an ordinary month (excluding any comm.) about 10% less than I did last year.

The boss started out with the normal "The corporation has done a study in the market...", and I stopped him there, telling him I didn't want to hear it, it was the same every year for 12 years. I can take him now to my competitors who do the same work as I do, earn 15 - 20% more than I do with a lower target each year! So he left it at that. I then repeated my statement that I am only here for now because I have to be, and am planning to leave asap. The first opp. I get to move to another company, I'm gone.

I must say that many of my peers feel the same way as I do, and if they react like I did, and all manage to get other jobs, this division will be in serious trouble, not that it isn't already.

Right now, I am happy to take any other position, even if I have to work in places like the Congo, Nigeria, Angola, Dubai.......
