It's Friday
And I'm sitting at my favorite coffee shop, just around the corner from the office. This is what life is really about. Sitting here, posting crap other people may or may not read, watching other people doing the same, or not, drinking good cappuccinos!
It's a beautiful day, clear skies, SA are the rugby world champions! And we have a ANC Presidential election coming up. (now why did I think of that, or put it in here?), anyway, all told, life is good. I suppose I will have to go to the office eventually, but I may go sooner than later if this bloody waiter doesn't come and refresh my coffee!
We are busy finalizing plans for the Princess's 40th coming up in two weeks time. Yup, my Lady is nearly 40! Wonder if I need to consider trading her in for a younger model? Anyone have any inside into what happens with these creatures after they turn 40? I know we guys just improve with age, but I'm not sure if the same goes for the dames.
As per the Princess's instructions, we are having a masked party. She did want a venetian Ball type masked party, but I told her I didn't think too many people would want to "dress up" as would have been expected. So It's still a masked party, and hopefully everyone will get a mask "a la Venetiana". They are relatively cheap and easy to come by.
One unfortunate part was that we had to limit the number of people we invited. This is due to a) financial restraint, and b) the size of the location we booked. So if anyone reading this wonders why they have not got the nod, it could be that the Princess has too many frinds, and some are closer to her than others?
If my 40th, which we had at our previous home, is anything to go by, it's going to be a blast. I eventually kicked out the last guys at 6.45 am!!!! My theme was "Priests and Prostitutes", and I had taken two sets of clothing, cut them in half vertically, and joined the two opposite sides to each other, so I was half a priest, half a prostitute! The turn out, dress up wise was excellent, and the most original was a guy who came wearing his rugby outfit, with a Springbok no 8 jersey. He was the "Hooker"!!!!! Some of the girls were ravishing, and if they had been real pro's, I would have spent my money there (if I was single!)

How many car manufacturers
are represented in South Africa? During the break in the show last night, I stepped outside to have a smoke. On of my buddies, who had come with us, brought up the subject of how many car manufacturers are represented in SA. I guessed about 15 / 16. He said, about 35! Well, I was not too sure he had it right, so in my head I did some counting, and quickly got to 20. I'm going to check and see if I can list them. Will post the result here. Will be interesting to know.
Picture taken off Google. No, I didn't request permission to use it.

It's a Dad thing
Was the name of the show we went to see last night. it was so funny! It's about 5 "dads", from a common neighborhood, who come together in the local park to build / assemble a playground for their kids. They don't know each other, and have responded to a call for assistance from one of the dads who had the bright idea.
They introduce themselves, a gay guy, a black guy, one kid, divorced, an American who came, saw, stayed, another guy, still married, brow beaten, and the last, well I don't recall. (It was 12 hours ago - I can't remember everything!)
But, as they go through the motions of building the playground, all the discussions go around child birth, and raising of these kids. And how each has had some similar experiences, and some very different. It's really good, well thought out, has some underlying messages, and funny. For some parts, one of the guys will imitate another's wife, so as to get a specific message across, and without going to extremes with make up or change of dress, they pull it off fantastically. Well enjoyed by all who attended!

I was wondering
Yesterday I had a tooth pulled. Today already I can chew on the place that the tooth came out of. How many times have to bitten your tongue, or inside of your cheek. How fast does it heal? And what about our dogs and cats? Whenever they have an injury / open sore, they lick it. And it heals.
So, what is it in our saliva that has such amazing healing properties? Why can we not harness this stuff, or even manufacture a good imitation / simulation there off, and have it available as a cream / lotion to put onto wounds etc.?
I haven't done a check on the Internet, but it would be interesting to see what, if anything, has been done in this line.
Ok, I just did a search for "properties of saliva" on the net. There is a mountain of information. But I still ask - what are we doing about harnessing this healing power?

Another day
another dime.
This evening we're off to Monte Casino (LIU) to a show called "It's a Dad thing". Not sure what it's about, other than it's supposed to be funny. It's part of the fund raising thing for GMan's trip to Malaysia next year. We (the parents) each got between 12 and 14 tickets to sell, and we sold all of ours (we bought 2 of them). So we're all going to the theater tonight.
4 of the other couples are meeting at our house so we can travel together in the VW Kombi.
Should be fun. We are not, however, going to have dinner there, too expensive, and I have to gamble before the show if I want to, as we are leaving for home as soon as the show ends.
Wish me luck.

The Dentist & Facebook
Saw the dentist this morning, had the offending tooth pulled.
have to go back next Wednesday morning at 8 for 2 x fillings, and he's going to clean my teeth. 35 Years of nicotine seems to be an issue.....! He also says I have Peri dent Disease. Will have to look it up. Apparently the bone in the jaw breaks down / recedes, and eventually all your teeth fall out. Sounds like a lot of fun. Says he can do something about it. Will wait and see.
I called in at GMan's school on the way to the office to inquire about the disciplinary hearing, needless to say nothing has been done, so I informed them I expect them to have one. Jeeeezzzz!!!!! Apparently there had been another incident, and the parent in this instance did lay assault charges, and the police did come to the school, and arrested the perpetrator! he must have shat himself!! Anyway, after about 30 minutes of negotiation, the police agreed to release him to his parents who had been called out asap.
Damn right that they did arrest him. Lesson learnt!
Face book - as I write this, I am going to clean it up. Deleting the following applications I really don't have to have, and which add no value to me or anyone else:-
Booze Mail, Compare people, Gifts, Hotness, Interview, No Mercy, Notes, Picture Personality, Profile Counter, Super Wall, TV Show Trivia, What's my Chinese name, Top Friends, Traveler IQ Challenge, Texas Hold em Poker, Sticky Notes, Photos, IQ test, iLike, PurePlay Cash Poker, Cities I've visited, How sexy is your name calculator, My Questions, Developer, Posted Items.

Facebook and other stuff
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm finding Facebook a bit tiresome. I mean, I've only got what, 7 or 8 friends registered, and already i can't keep up with all the crap that comes through. So, do I really care of ABC has now invited Joe Soap as a friend, or if SHE CAN has sent Blog Joe a wall whatever? I really don't care. What I find useful is the scrabble game, although it's slow going, the jigsaw puzzles are fun, and now I've started a cause, which I hope a few thousand people will subscribe to so I can get some momentum for Witness to get a new ID book issued. Apart from that, blah, it's a load of crap! Or am I missing the point? I suppose if I didn't have this blog, I might find the other application more useful, but I find that this method of expression is more in line with what I need / want.
Anyhow, of late it's been quite hectic at work. My OO has been on vacation (refer one of my previous posts on this) and I'm not having much fun filling in for him.
I don't remember if I mentioned that we attended my nephew's wedding on Saturday, or that I had a terrible toothache during the function. But I've decided tomorrow morning (Wednesday) I'm off to the dentist to get one tooth pulled, and two others repaired.
I bought a new fan belt for Queenie's washing machine today. it doesn't fit so I have to take it back in the morning. Don't know where I'm going to get the right one though.
The kids are busy with year end exams, and as such, spend quite a bit of time at home. They only go in to school on the days they write an exam, and only stay there for the duration of the exam, and then come home. So they are more home than at school. By the last week of Nov. they will have finished writing, and will be on vacation for the next 6 weeks or so.
However, the Princess and I don't have much / any vacation time left, and finances are short, so I'm not sure if we will be going anywhere for the Dec. break.
The local "Lotto" has resytarted after being off for about 6 months (was it that long?), and I've had some luck, winning ZAR268 one week for a layout of ZAR50, and winning ZAR34 for a layout of ZAR50.
I notice that the jackpot has now rolled over for a few draws (4?) and so should be getting big. I wouldn't mind getting a piece of that!
Some good news. I check online a few weeks ago, and saw that my cc (Closed corporation)(LIU) was still registered. I had thought I had made it dormant. So I sent off an email requeting details of the current member /s, and heard nothing. I resent the email - nothing. So today I phoned them, and after having to verbally abuse at least 4 Nero's for their kak attitude, and telling the switchboard operator that in fact she's not getting paid just for turning up each day, I got through to a guy who could actually speak properly, and as it turned out, could use his computer, and could give me the information I needed.
The good news - it's still registered to me! This is important, because I can now use it for the casket business. I need to get a bank account and stuff in place. it also means that by looking at the cc registration number, it "seems" as if the business has been operating since 1991!! The upside is that people prefer companies which have some "history" and don't look like they have just come into being recently. yea, I know it's a crock, but do I care?
All I need to do is get an new Accounting Officer, and then I'm going to change the registration to read "XXX cc" "Trading as DIY Caskets".
And finally, I received my latest provident fund statement today, and for a change it's looking good. Have had some good growth of late, mainly due to the excellent growth in the local market!
Now, seeing as it's only 9.58 pm, but the rest of the family have gone to bed, I think I'll do the same. Nothing wrong with crawling in a bit earlier every now and then.

Received this in an email
from my dear friend Mouton Blanc from Canada:-
Bed sheets
An extremely modest man was in the hospital for a series of tests, the last of which had left his bodily systems extremely upset..
Upon making several false alarm trips to the bathroom, he decided the latest episode was another and stayed put. He suddenly filled his bed with diarrhea and was embarrassed beyond his ability to remain rational.
In a complete loss of composure he jumped out of bed, gathered up the bed sheets, and threw them out the hospital window.
A drunk was walking by the hospital when the sheets landed on him. He started yelling, cursing, and swinging his arms violently trying to get the unknown things off, and ended up with the soiled sheets in a tangled pile at his feet.
As the drunk stood there, unsteady on his feet, staring down at the sheets, a hospital security guard, (barely containing his laughter), and who had watched the whole incident, walked up and asked, 'What the heck is going on here?'
The drunk, still staring down replied: 'I think I just beat the shit out of a ghost.'
Happy Halloween

With regards to the washing machine
I have not got a response from Game. I also posted a complaint on www.hellopeter.co.za, and they are supposed to be a company that responds, so we will wait and see.
On Saturday morning me and LuckyL decided to remove the offending machine from Queenie's flat, and take it out to the garage, from where I could strip out the motor, and dispose of the rest.
Needless to say, we dropped it going out the door, and it fell down 4 steps.....
We got it to the garage, where I proceeded to plug it in, and connect the water supply. It leaked all out of the front face where it had fallen onto.
So, we opened the back cover to get to the motor, and found that the drive belt had come off!!! (that's why it didn't work! and now we had dropped the damn thing as well!) What would have been a simple repair was now... well, lets see if we can save this situation.
So we open up the top cover, and I see that the water "loading" unit, made of a hard plastic, is cracked / chipped / all lugs snapped off. That's why and where it's leaking.
Strip it out. Get the Pratley "like steel" and do the necessary repairs. Leave it to set overnight.
Refit the water unit. Test. NO LEAKS!!! Refit the drive belt - works like a dream. However, the drive belt is not in good nick, so I've taken it with this morning and will buy a replacement on the way home.
Fit it, and then put the machine back into the flat for another bout of duty... So, either way, I didn't get good service from Game, but they did save Queenie about ZAR2000!
