Two recent court cases, have earned the attention of newspaper readers in South Africa
1. One person was fined R1 000 for not having a TV license.
2. Another was released on bail for R500 after being arrested for murder.
The moral of this South African story:
If you do not have a TV license and the inspector comes round, kill him.
You'll save R500.
.........It's the Right Thing To Do....

The Keg & Joker
Those of you who read my stuff, will know I regularly read http://dmdad.blogspot.com/ and http://borntofish.blogspot.com/. Now the owners of these two sites know each other from previous employment at the same employer, and as such keep in touch, play pool, and have a few snorts every now and then.
You will also know that Divemaster is currently http://dmdad.blogspot.com/2007/08/right-lets-try-this-again.html in Saudi Arabia. No alcohol, not even in the foreigners compounds!
yesterday I called DM DAD to confirm Fishman's proper name, as he had got in touch with me re the coffin business I am trying to get into.
Then he followed the call up with an SMS complaining that we were meeting in a pub, and would be having a couple of beers without him!
Well, tough tacky bro, we didn't tell u to go!
We did meet. He's a great guy. gave me good useful information, as well as a training manual for the manufacture of coffins / caskets, as well as a brochure for the handles and stuff. Also an insight into the game. Which raises another question:- Is there a "Coffin Mafia" in South Africa?
DM Dad, just so you know, we did a good couple of ice cold beers last night. I had the Princess's new boss with me too, and much talk around fishing and stuff took place. Missed, thought about sending you a photo, but decided that you were in enough alcohol free pain already.
We did agree that when you get back we will get together.
Chill bro!!
Thanx Fishman.

I had to change the name
of my other blog from Coffins for Africa to "The Coffin Shop".
Seems the first choice is already in use.
No problem.... Now it's changed. Could even change again before long.

Is it any wonder then
In the traffic
When I was a kid I was surprised to once see a truck driving down the railway line! yup, I saw it! I am even more surprised to hear that this still happens today. For those of you who think we have very wide railway tracks, or very narrow trucks in RSA, here is the explanation:-

Just behind the cab - the front set of Railway track wheels, hydraulically worked up and down

Just behind the rear wheels, the rear set of railway wheels.
I'm not sure how it would be driven, if there is a separate gear selection / prop shaft for this function, but this was a new truck, going to be delivered i suppose to the railway company.
I was surprised to see it, and thought it was worth sharing here!

Seen on the way to work
I saw this on the way to the office, and had to stop to take a pic. Either the car was in an accident, and left there till the 'owner" could have it towed, or it broke down, and was left there till the "owner" could have it towed. Either way, it was stripped completely by whomever came past at some stage, and decided to return later that night for spare parts! Not much left, even the engine and number plates are missing.

I am very surprised that
this post of mine had no comments / responses.
http://soufafrican.blogspot.com/2007/08/brother-robert-and-my-non-racist.html
Could it be that no one read it, or no one disagreed. Whichever, I thought it was a well written, properly thought out piece. Well then, there's no telling what some people will and wont read, is there?

This past weekend
came and went. Due to a massive power outage which lasted more than 3 days in the Strubens Valley area, Builders Warehouse were not cutting boards to size on Sat. morning, so I didn't get the stuff I needed for the first coffin, and so it must wait for next weekend. I know I could have bought the board and cut it up myself at home, but that's not the point. a) I can't cut as straight / square / precise as their machine can, and be, it could be cheaper if I get it precut, as it will save on time.
All part of the plan. So I spent time working on the bar counter top, and the boys helped. It's coming on nicely, and I should be in a position to stain / varnish / colour and then seal it next weekend sometime. Then I need to start on the rest of it.

That's the boys doing the sanding / polishing (fighting in between) thing.
Witness finished digging the holes for the planned tree planting, so now I need to get soil and compost to fill the holes with (and don't forget the bone meal), and then the trees. Still am not sure which of the African Thorn Trees (Acacia) we want to plant, but we will get there.
Also, the Princess is pushing for me to get the big plant pots which she wants to put down the driveway, about 10 of them. Will need loads of soil and compost and plants for that too.
With spring coming soon, there is sure to be a big amount of pressure for me to get more of the gardens done.
Oh well, beats getting drunk, whoring around, getting lap dances at Teasers and such....
