So we needed a bearing, a wee little one, to finish the rebuild of Gman's Aprilia. I'd had the engine removed, and the gearbox opened up so as to find out what a niggly noise was all about. Turns out the previous owner, among other stuff he screwed up, had replaced the first gear back to front!!! Now, it can / did work in this position, but the "fingers" tended to slip at low revs, causing the box to rattle, like. Anyway, we sorted it.
But, during stripping, unnoticed by me and / or the mechanic, a small, 8x12x8 needle bearing got damaged.
Phone Aprilia South Africa. Huh, like they care. No stock. Can't import as they are going through a restructuring / takeover / some crap.

So I go online, Yellow pages - Bearings. I call about 20 places. Nothing. One even checked and said no one imports that size. Call another 10- go to Timken.co.za - call them. They refer me to one of their agents. i call them. They have in stock - how many do I want!!!
I collected two yesterday morning, across town - Total cost, for the two, including VAT (look it up) ZAR20.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! About 1.2 pounds UK, or Aus$1.3!!!!
So, by Wed next week, the bike will be done. In 12 days time GMan gets his licence, and he's on the road!

This past week and stuff
So, another week has come and gone. Well, for me anyway, as I'm not going in to the office in the morning due to the fact I will be going to Koffiefontein (look it up) for the weekend for a wedding.
Work is going OK, I just can't really get into it. Seems like I'm still doing something right though, as our pipeline is looking so good.
Next week Thursday I will be flying to Cape Town, and returning Friday. We were in a conference call with some of the guys from CT with our manager, when they asked for some Siebel training. The damager said he would see if he could arrange it. Off the cuff I sed I would go down and give then training, and now I must.
No sweat for me. he wanted me to go down and come back same day! Duh. I'm going Thur, sleeping over, and coming back the next day. And I'm renting a car. And he's paying for it all.
Well, the company is anyway. Should be fun. I just need to swot up on Siebel so that I can give some level of training!!!!!
haven't seen much of anyone lately, as I've been quite busy, and tend to leave the office once I'm done. Not a very "friendly" environment at the moment. I'm thinking of using an alternative office space in future, just need to convince the manager there to give me an access card.
Princess is well, as are the boys. They did OK last term at school, and are now back again after a short but fun break. This term they will be writing exams, so a bit more studying will be required. Even LuckyL seems to have learned that with a little effort he can do quite well.

Party time and drinking and attitude
Friday - 6 April 2007. We're at a friends place celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary with them. I decide, just because of the occasion, to let my hair down a little, and partake of some of those wonderful alcoholic beverages I have been giving a wide berth to for so long.
A Millers beer to start with. A couple of double Jack Daniels, no ice, no water, another Millers.....
One of the other guests present was the 20 year grooms brother in law - a real prize prick.
He's forever taking the piss out of my mate, and does so rudely, not in a funny manner. My bud's immune to him, but I was getting really revved, so much so that the Princess, and my bud noticed, and he kept saying to me - "I can see the gear moving a notch at a time. Let it be...".
Anyway, he left before I could get up and upset the whole party, lucky for him (and me I suppose).
I heard afterwards that he had passed a derogatory remark to one of my bud's daughters, and this really pissed me off. Had I heard him, I would have demanded, in a fairly loud voice that he apologise, and in failing to do so, I would have been quite in my rights to rip his head off, shit on his lungs and have him extricated for bad breath....
Ah, well, next time..... Now I remember why I stopped drinking....
