An interesting item in this mornings news on the wireless:-

Nigeria's, Africa's largest oil producer is now having to IMPORT ALL of it's refined fuel requirements!!!

It seems that even though they have spent USD1 billion over the past 7 years just to prevent such an occurrence, two of it's refineries are OOO (out of order) because rebels blew up their oil feeder pipes, and the third one is OOO due to technical failure / problems.

Now why am I not surprised?

The medal

In a previous blog, http://soufafrican.blogspot.com/2007/01/for-country-and-freedom.html, I have a picture of a medal. I ommited to give it a title.

It is the "Pro Patria" medal which was awarded to all those soldiers who did time on the border during the now infamous border war in the then South West Africa. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_African_Border_War

I have 3 of them (or rather my Mom has, very special to her she says), for three tours to the front. 1 x 18 months, and 2 x 3 months each.

Some time ago I posted a blog on this site referring / speaking about a new Afrikaans song I had heard. I made some comments around the fact that it seemed to be a "Right Wing" type anthem! It's "De La Rey" by Bok van Blerk.

I wasn't far wrong!! For the past two days it has been the topic of discussion on quite a number of newspapers, as well as on Talk Radio 702!

Seems like it's now being touted as the new Afrikaaner dream for a true leader (cultural) for the Afrikaner youth.

For country and freedom

I usually have my car radio set to listen to talk Radio 702 (look it up - http://www.702.co.za/).

One morning some discussion was held around the current "Freedom Park" memorial site. (look it up). The powers that be have decided to include the names of a whole bunch of irrelevant people, but have made the decision to EXCLUDE all those WHITE soldiers who were conscripted into the old SADF in the apartheid years to fight against the perceived communist threat from the North.

So what, say I. Some of those who gave their lives were friends of mine, and I do not think any of them would want to be included in this "Park" memorial anyway. They fought for what they were led to believe was the defense of their country from the advancing "Red Tide", the threat of communism which was at the time advancing at a rapid rate into Africa.

Today, the powers that be believe we were fighting for Apartheid, and in it's defense. Well, they can think what they like. We stopped communism in it's tracks, therefore we succeeded in our mission.

And we did so proudly.

To hell with the rest.
